EXPENDABLES Sequel Casting Stuff!! Van Damme?? Will Bruce Come Back??

Merrick again...

UPDATE:  seems there's been some miscommunication and misunderstanding afoot regarding why Segal isn't likely to appear in the EXPENDABLES sequel.  In short, it's not Seagal avoiding producer Avi Lerner, it's the other way around - Lerner had had some "bad experiences" with Seagal, thus wouldn't be in a rush to put him in a Lerner-produced EXPENDIBLES sequel.

THIS piece has a brief quote from Van Damme cohort Sheldon Lettich which illustrates the mattern more accurately.

Merrick here...

At this weekend's Golden Globes, Bruce Willis offered a quick update on the upcoming EXPENDABLES sequel, in which he's expected to reprise the "Mr. Church" role he cameoed in the first film.

"Apparently it's going to happen this year," he said.

When asked if he will be in it -- as has been rumored -- Bruce confirmed the news.

"As far as I know, barring any unforeseen circumstances, but yeah, I would love to be a part of it," he said.

This per Yahoo

Via his Twitter stream, Stallone has previously indicated that Willis' role would be considerably enhanced this time around.

Meanwhile, numerous reports...like THIS ONE...say that there's a very good chance Jean-Claude Van Damme will appear in the new film, provided Steven Seagal is not in the picture.  Which doesn't sound like too big an issue, as Seagal is evidently not keen to appear in a  movie produced by EXPENDABLES' Avi Lerner.

Hopefully all of these developments will push forward the video release of Stallone's EXPENDABLES re-cut, which he says is quite a bit different than the version we saw in theaters.  I really, really want to see that new edit of the film...I enjoyed the first movie, but feel it might be well served by some rejiggering.

More as we know more...
