Merrick here...
Even though we learned there'd be a sequel to Stephen Sommers' G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA shortly after the film's Summer 2009 release, we've heard precious few details about the picture in the months...years...since then. Now we're gleaning a little more, although still not a helluva lot.
We know that, at the moment, ZOMBIELAND writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are scripting. We know that...last year at least...at least Channing Tatum and Dennis Quaid were expected to return...
And, we recently learned that Sommers would not be directing this time around. Today we're hearing that that Lee Byung-hun who played Storm Shadow in the first go-round, will reprise his role in the new movie.
This per Hollywood Reporter.
I'll admit to being one of the few people on Earth who quite liked the first film (and I'm not even a Sommers fan), so part of me is sorry to see him not heading up this installment. Still, there are a number of directors out there who could knock this one out of the park - it'll be interesting to see who they pick.
