Greengrass, MLK. MEMPHIS...

Merrick here...

THIS Vulture article says that Paul Greengrass (director of the two most recent BOURNE movies, UNITED 93, and GREEN ZONE) has written a script about the events leading up the 1968 assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in Memphis and hopes to make the film - simply entitled MEMPHIS - next.

Greengrass was recently been attached to a big screen adaptation of Stacy Schiff's CLEOPATRA book - presumably he'd squeeze MEMPHIS in between now and the time that film goes into production full-steam-ahead production?

Vulture reveals that the script is based on Greengrass' '...own original research, and that it looks at King’s life while trying to organize the city’s sanitation workers in the spring of 1968, just before his murder on April 4 of that year.'

Vulture's sources say that mega-produces Scott Rudin (TRUE GRIT, THE SOCIAL NETWORK, NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN) is considering making the picture with Greengrass, possibly for Focus Features, although 'no formal negotiations have started — yet.'
