Hey folks, Harry here with further information about WAR OF THE WORLDS. Our man, DETH and a couple of others, have written in with info about the HALLMARK... WAR OF THE WORLDS miniseries project in development. Recently I had a chance to talk with a fella at Hallmark, and I don't believe he mentioned this... and at the time I'm sure he would have. BUT... We have to put it on the table that what our UK spies might have heard about could be this alleged TV miniseries. As for the PETER BRIGGS script... I haven't heard much about it in recent years. I know that if Peter's draft is involved then it will be a pretty damn big production as Peter does not pull any punches in his scripts... and God willing we'll see one of his scripts turn to cinema soon. But this is the latest info I've found... We are still digging!
Hiya Harry,
DETH here with a quick note on WAR OF THE WORLDS.
I don't know anything about the Warners version but I can confirm that Hallmark are trying to get a TV miniseries off the ground. Jeff Wayne has the tv rights at the moment and has told them that he would only let them go for a hefty fee and the condition that they would use the tripod designs featured on his album cover. His reasons for this are that he is planning to do a world tour and wants to use the Hallmark footage as a backdrop. As I understand it negotiations on this are ongoing.
For what its worth I remember hearing that Peter Briggs (ALIENS VS. PREDATOR) was at one point working on a feature script of WAR OF THE WORLDS. This is about 5 years ago though so who knows what happened to that one.
Hope this is useful.
All the best,
DETH.
