More to do with SPIDER-MAN...

Well... Shucks.... Seems like well... David Fincher has passed on SPIDER-MAN, basically saying that it wasn't his thing. Word has it that Michael Bay felt the script needed quite a bit of work and he's preoccupied with his PEARL HARBOR movie at the moment (which'll take quite some time to shoot). Meanwhile, word has circulated back to me from those who have seen Koepp's script that say... quite frankly that the script is a dud. I guess that's why Barry Sonnenfeld has been speaking with one of his good bud, screenwriting friends about the film. While I haven't heard anything from Chris Columbus' camp, word continues to come in about Sonnenfeld's interest in doing this to us. The word overheard from this 'unnamed bigshot screenwriter' is that since Barry wants a 'mad scientist' character, if he and Barry end up working on this together, he'll get Doc Ock.
Meanwhile... About Chris Columbus. You know folks... I don't know. This fella has a lifelong absolute love for the material. If he were to get it, the screenwriting duties would most likely fall into the hands of Sam Hamm. Which would be a good thing, BUUUUUUT.... Does Columbus have the ability to tell this type of story, with the sort of action it would demand from him?
Personally, I have to say my peace... Barry Sonnenfeld would make this film a light confection of little resonance. The trailer would look sharp, but the film would be hollow. I'm not asking for a dark brooding SPIDER-MAN... but I also don't want to see a completely trivial Spider-Man. Personally, I have to now pull for someone like Robert Rodriguez, John Woo or Joe Dante to take this on. Sony... don't be in a rush on this one. GET IT RIGHT! Sonnenfeld is... WRONG!
