Update on THE TIME MACHINE film project

Well folks, it seems that ol Brad Silberling (CASPER, CITY OF ANGELS) is currently preparing ol H.G. Wells' THE TIME MACHINE for a summer 2000 start date, with the idea being that it would be a big ol Summer 2001 release... Hmmm to join the Jules Verne inspired ATLANTIS and the first of the Tolkein LORD OF THE RINGS movies. Hmmmm.... In a way, it somehow seems to all make sense. We know that John Logan (as best reports can tell) started the script, though it has been an invisible draft... not really circulating where grubby hands can grab hold and interested eyes can ponder. Word has it that while the framework of the story is still the same... ie beginning in Victorian England as it was originally set... the history of where our good man visits on his way to the Eloi and the Morlocks has been... enhanced to reflect the direction modern futurists see it. As best as my inquiries can tell, Silberling was tapped by Spielberg, who was originally the dude in the helming seat... but his slate became too busy to direct it. Personally... I'm completely satisfied with my George Pal version. So I won't be being too excited till I have a better and more interesting reason. Rod Taylor is a god... and Yvette Mimieux's Weena and Alan Young's Filby were... simply perfection. GOD I LOVE THAT FILM.
