Hey folks, Harry here. NM MOVIE MAN sent in this look at THE ROAD TO EL DORADO. He liked the film, but was unsure of how good it was, since only about 30% of it was done, and he's never seen a film this rough before. But... he liked it. He does have some spoilers below so tread lightly... Here ya go...
Hey Harry,
I live here in Albuquerque, NM and this adventure started on friday november 12th, Well it was the first day that Dogma Was out, so upon waking up I had one thing on my mind, Seeing Dogma, For "Christ's sake" I had eagerly anticipated this for more than a year, so I called up some friends and asked them if they wanted to go (Since my Girlfriend of two years who i had been hyping this movie too for a year broke up with me a week earlier) One of them did, Cool alright, that'll work, we drove down to the Century Rio 24 theatre and we were already late and had to wait in huge lines for tickets, And I did not want to miss the trailers I would rather have waited another two hours to see Dogma At the next showtime, and see the trailers then miss them!, so we had about 30 seconds to spare before curtain call, so we rushed to Theatre 12, i could see the door I was Seconds away when, WHAM!!, " Exscuse me sir, could i have a second of your time?" Who the hell is this person and why are they calling me sir?, im 17!, " this will only take a second" Well i dont have a second sorry, I said, and made my way to the theatre, But She was persistent, and she figured out how to catch my attention, "Would you be intersted in a free movie?", Free?, Yes Free, O.K you got my full attention, Well, Sir, (SIR?) We are haveing a screening of a movie that is opening this holiday season from dreamworks, Right then I played Dumb, I new it was Galaxy Quest. hey I'd see it For free, She said I just neded to call a number R.S.V.P me and my guests. cool I was there, Well Saturday came, I got up Showered, and me and my little bro Headed down Paseo Del Norte, for our final destination, Upon Arriving, it looked like a daycare!, Kids Running around everywhere, now dont get me wrong, i Like kids just as much as the next guy, But i almost thought that a studio had churned out a pokemon sequel in less than a week, I mean let me tell you, these lines were like first midnight screening of episode one long!, Anyway I got in line, and waited, and waited, and then i waited some more, and New Mexico wasent the warmest that day, finally they gave me a ticket and told me what the movie was really going to be "The Road To El Dorado" now i had never heard of this before, so I was excited to see it, they finally lead us in the theatre via a back door, we got our seats and waited, as as we waited, i noticed some seats were taped off, and in walks "K" with his popcorn. Im sure Nobody Noticed Jeffrey Katzenberg, hehe But I did. finally they were about to start the movie, they said how it wasent finished and showed us an intro about how the animation wasent all finished, now the movie, sorry for all this ranting, but i needed to get it out, bash me in talk back I DONT CARE!
The film starts out with some guy trying to summon up a spirit or something, couldnt really tell the animation was comparable to stick figures, then it cuts to two men, Miguel and i cant remember the other's name, Voiced by Kevin Kline and Kenneth Branagh, they cheat at playing cards and win a map to, " the lost City of gold' pretty much el dorado, but when they are found out for cheating they make a run for it, and end up hiding in barrels on a ship, they take some food, and drop a row boat and with their new found companion a horse ( this parts hilarious, i wont spoil it) they head to el dorado, where they are thought as gods, and the movie takes a turn for the worst here, it is slow, boring and the characters in my opinion were pointless, as the movie ends it leaves you feeling awful, cause it is like 1 minute everything is fine, 2 minutes later they are sealing up the entrance to the lost city so the bad guys cant get in, and 3 minutes later, it ended, that part really bugged me, this movie is really not anything to rave about, it is not anything that has not been done before, alot of the animation was great, but not the greatest, and maybe only 20 minutes of the hour and a half feature was fully done, but who knows maybe this movie could be the second coming of animation, i couldnt really tell, im sure my opinion will change once it is released in march, and it is all finished and Tim Rice's music is in place, but we'll have to see
Signing off
