The Behind the Scenes Pic of the Day is Duke of New York, A Number One!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes pic! John Carpenter is a director you’ll see pop up a lot on this column. He’s one of my favorite filmmakers and today we’re looking at a shot from the making of ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK. This photo didn’t come with a credit, but I know Kim Gottlieb-Walker was Carpenter’s onset photographer for most of this era, so it’s a good guess that she took this rather pretty image of Carpenter getting a shot of the New York skyline. I know there’s no Snake or Cabby or Duke in this pic, but what really grabbed me about it is how candid it is. This is more of the down and dirty side of filmmaking… grabbing a shot of a cityscape at either dusk or dawn (looks like morning light to me, but I’m no expert). Plus it’s a pretty large image whereas some of the other ESCAPE pics I have are tiny. Thanks to reader Michael Heintzelman for sending the pic along! Hope you guys enjoy it (click for the bigger version)!
