Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes pic!
Billy Wilder’s Sunset Blvd. opened me up to a world of cinema like few other films. I was a teenager when I audited a Film Appreciation class at UT and this was the first film we watched as a class. John Ford's The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance made me fall in love with westerns, Michael Curtiz’s Casablanca made me fall in love with black and white films and Billy Wilder’s Sunset Blvd. sent me head over heels in love with noir.
It’s a great gateway movie because it’s so damn sharp and fun and smart. Featuring a performance for the ages from Gloria Swanson as faded star Norma Desmond and a hell of an opening that hooks you and instantly commits you to watching the full movie.
So here’s an awesome picture of Ms. Swanson and the great Cecile B. DeMille, who played himself in the movie and was the reason for one of cinema’s greatest lines.
Hope you guys enjoy the pic and click for the bigger image!
If you have a pic you think should be included email me. I’m looking for the iconic, the rare or the just plain cool behind the scenes shots to feature here.
Tomorrow’s pic is gonna rescue some whales!
