Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes pic!
I love Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and I’ve been very vocal about that love. It’s not as serious as Raiders, it doesn’t quite capture the same instant-classic vibe, but it has all the fun of Raiders of the Lost Ark, something none of the other sequels were quite able to capture.
Every other Indiana Jones movie is chasing the brilliant original film except for this one. Due to difficult times in the lives of both Spielberg and Lucas the tone in Temple of Doom is bleak, the villain darker than dark and as a result this is the only sequel that feels content to be its own thing.
Sure, technically it’s a prequel, the timecard at the beginning showing us Dr. Jones is a year away from finding the lost ark of the covenant, but it’s not like the movie exists to fill in backstory (ala the Star Wars prequels). The flick could have just as easily been a sequel, which is why most regard it as such.
Anyway, I love this flick and will feature it many times over the life of this column, so you’re gonna end up loving it, too, or hating my guts. Or both. That’s cool, too.
Thanks to reader Nick Payne for sending this image along (and in embiggenable fashion). Enjoy!

If you have a pic you think should be included email me. I’m looking for the iconic, the rare or the just plain cool behind the scenes shots to feature here.
More celebrations! Tomorrow’s pic is dedicated to fantastic franchise about to deliver its final chapter!
