Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes pic!
I promised another Bogie photo in yesterday’s BtSPotD featuring Casablanca. I love Bogart, I love his personality, his delivery, the fact that he wasn’t pretty, but handsome with all the gravitas that comes with a man who has lived life.
Even with that under my belt, when Harry screening SAHARA at Butt-Numb-A-Thon a couple years back I was gobsmacked. I’d never heard of the movie and to this day I can’t believe it isn’t as well known as Bogart’s best work. Maybe it is and I’m just ignorant. That’s totally possible.
Sure, it doesn’t have the iconography of Bogart’s noir work or the machine gun dialogue of Casablanca or Key Largo, but it’s just a flat out beginning to end masterfully made movie.
Taking place during WW2 the film centers upon a tank regiment that takes in a German prisoner and the mind games he plays on them as he’s being transported. Oh, and they are in the desert. And running out of water.
Seriously, it’s a fantastic movie that caught me completely by surprise when I saw it, so when I stumbled upon this still image I had to feature it.
Seek out the movie, enjoy the still and yes, you can click to make it larger.
If you have a pic you think should be included email me. I’m looking for the iconic, the rare or the just plain cool behind the scenes shots to feature here.
Tomorrow’s pic really should have gone in the October horror run of this column. And if you don’t think so I’ll summon a revenge demon to take your ass out!
