Rhys Ifans to square off against Andrew Garfield's SPIDER-MAN!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Sony issued a press release today announcing a bit of casting for their Spider-Man reboot. Namely one Mr. Rhys Ifans (Notting Hill) will be the villain.

They won't say which villain, so now the guessing game starts! I'm hoping they don't rehash Spidey 1 and have him playing Norman Osborn. I think they're smart enough to let that lie, but since they're involving Gwen Stacey, we have to expect to see the Green Goblin at some point in these new films. But if they're putting Peter Parker back in High School, I hope that opens up Curt Connors again as a possibility. Maybe that's just me wanting to see The Lizard finally realized on the screen. Keeping mum on the whole deal, director Mark Webb did state that it was after seeing Ifans' turn in the upcoming film ANONYMOUS that the decision was made to cast him as the lead villain. It was Ifans' ability to "embody both warmth and rage" that made him "an ideal choice for this character." Sounds like the Jekyll & Hyde personality of Curt Connors, no? What do you folks think? -Quint quint@aintitcool.com Follow Me On Twitter
