Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes pic!
Ah, Paul Verhoeven once more. Although that crazy bastard isn’t in this pic, but I do love this movie. Can you imagine a film like Total Recall being released in the current studio climate? Here’s something that is bigger than life, a convoluted, ambiguous science fiction action adventure movie that is rated R, filled with morally corrupt “heroes” and near cartoon villains, but shot in an eerily realistic way.
Granted, we still haven’t seen Philip K. Dick’s story the way it was meant to be seen, but much like another Verhoeven adaptation (Starship Troopers) I love the movie I got and can’t fault the man too much for branching out because I am just enamored by his particular storytelling ability.
I’d love to know more about the David Cronenberg version that was to start Richard Dreyfuss (and if anybody has a dimension-skipper that can take me over to whatever crazy dimension is home to that particular reality let me know), but I’m happy with what I got.
Today’s picture features the great make-up man, Mr. Rob Bottin, goofing off with one of his crazier effects in the picture. All the suffocating on Mars’ surface scenes freaked the 10 year old me the fuck out and the eye-ball popping still gets under my skin. Thanks, Mr. Bottin!
