Hola all. Massawyrm here.
There’s not a whole hell of a lot to say about THE VIRGINITY HIT except to say that it is a funny, clever film, definitely worth a look. On the whole, the film is your standard, by the numbers teen sex comedy. Its twist is that it is told documentary style from the point of view of young guys just out of High School, eager to get the last of their little clique initiated in the ways of love. To its credit, the film never tries to pretend that it is in any way real and instead leans heavily upon its script and plenty of ad lib to generate a genuine feeling of comradery between the leads, while still maintaining a workable, interesting story punctuated with twists, turns and great gags.
Matt is your prototypical dork. He’s a nice guy – smart and funny – but just doesn’t get it yet. He still thinks of the sex as some magical, nearly mythical thing to be gifted upon you when the stars align. For him, the very act of touching the girl he’d been dating for two years requires everything to be right. And while he dicks around waiting to plan the perfect evening, she cheats on him. This single act sends him spiraling out of control, eager to get revenge on her by losing his virginity as soon as humanly possible. Hilarity ensues.
A solid, mid-level diversion, what THE VIRGINITY HIT lacks is a few truly spectacular over the top scenes. While it is consistently funny the whole way through and has an immensely likable young cast, nothing stands out to make this a top tier entry into the Teen Sex genre. It just happens to be a really good one. Well-paced, the film never drags or wears out its welcome and as it races towards its satisfying conclusion, the film squeezes in a few more ridiculous bits of comedy.
I found myself whole-heartedly entertained by this and can solidly recommend it, but there isn’t a lot here to talk about. It is very much fire and forget comedy. If you’re looking for some well-earned laughs this weekend, this will do the trick nicely.
Until next time friends,
