GEEKS’ Apatow Jumps Back
Into Primetime With HBO and
24-Year-Old Writer-Producer-
Director-Actress Lena Dunham!!

I am – Hercules!! Big-deal filmmaker Judd Apatow (“The 40-Year-Old Virgin,” “Knocked Up,” “Funny People”), who hasn’t done a lot of television since ABC’s “Freaks and Greeks” and Fox’s “Undeclared” were unceremoniously yanked from the airwaves roughly a decade ago, is getting back in the TV game. Deadline Hollywood reports HBO just ordered a pilot for an untitled Apatow-produced project from Lena Dunham, the 24-year-old wunderkind who wrote, directed and starred in the acclaimed and award-winning “Tiny Furniture,” which hits cinemas Nov. 12. “Furniture” won the top prize at the South By Southwest film festival this year. From the Village Voice:
Tiny Furniture earned the 23-year-old Dunham comparisons to Woody Allen. She's a gifted comedienne, eager to plum her insecurities over her imperfect physical appearance for both poignancy and laughs—I'm not sure I've seen a film that so accurately and unblinkingly depict what it's like to feel unattractive.
Dunham will also write, produce, direct and star in the HBO pilot, “about the assorted humiliations and rare triumphs of a group of girls in their early 20's,” according to Deadline. If the pilot goes to series, it will be Apatow's first in primetime since 2001's "Undeclared." Apatow is also executive producer of HBO's late-night sketch show "Funny Or Die Presents," which I think is Apatow's first series of any stripe since "Undeclared."
