Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes pic!
Oh, young Tim Burton. I really miss you. And I don’t hate on all of Burton’s newest work. I quite liked Big Fish and really dug Sweeney Todd. Can’t abide his Willy Wonka remake and his Planet of the Apes… well, it’s his Planet of the Apes.
But his movies meant, and still mean, a lot to me. Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure, Beetlejuice, Ed Wood, Mars Attacks!, Batman and, of course, Edward Scissorhands.
While I’d put both Pee-Wee and Beetlejuice ahead of Scissorhands in personal preference there’s a balance to the fairy tale and fantasy aspects that float around in all of Burton’s films that he hasn’t been able to strike as perfectly in any of them.
In many ways Edward is the closest we’ve come to one of the classic Universal Monsters. He’s a tragic figure, a sad figure, but also filled with childlike awe and innocence despite his scary appearance.
Winona Ryder is totally adorable, Alan Arkin is hilarious, Anthony Michael Hall is at his douchiest and Vincent Price is still the man.
So much so, this photo features a candid moment on set between the legendary Mr. Price and Tim Burton. Click for the much bigger version! Enjoy!
