In the second (to my knowledge) screening of ALL THE PRETTY HORSES (the first taking place here in Austin, if memory serves) the lights went out on ol Billy Bob and Harvey Weinstein. Tis a shame, as I've heard the buzz on the film, and it's quite strong. So they had to cancel the screening and reschedule.... We'll keep our eyes open for the next one...
This Tuesday I had the opportunity to go to a screening here in NJ of "All The Pretty Horses" starring Matt Damon and directed by Billy Bob Thorton. In the audience was Mike Nichols who directed the all time classic and one of my favs ,"The Graduate". Also in attendance was Harvey Weinstein and it was rumored that Billy Bob was there but I never saw him. The editors and other people who worked on it were also there. Let me tell you, from what I saw, this movie is absolutely beautiful . If this film does not get a nod for best cinematography, I will be highly surprised. Visually, this it the most breathtaking film I've seen in a very long time. Unfortunately, about an hour into the movie the power in the entire area went out and the screening was abruptly canceled. It was a terrible thing to happen because the movie was just starting to pick up.( The total running time was said to be roughly 3 hours). It took about an hour for the characters to be introduced and the setting. The conflict of the film still was not introduced but those who read the book might know what happens. All in all I can say that this film will be a must see when it comes out this coming summer. Hopefully I'll get invited to the screening again when they have it and I'll give a full report. Till then.
