“The Office” producers have “reached out” to Rhys Darby, who played the hapless manager Murray on “Flight of the Conchords,” about joining NBC’s top-rated sitcom, according to Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello.
Could Darby’s character eventually inherit Michael Scott’s office?
“We haven’t settled exactly who will take over,” says Lieberstein, adding that promoting a current staffer to the top job remains a viable option as well. (Coexecutive producer Mindy Kaling recently endorsed Rainn Wilson’s Dwight for the gig.)
Producers also apparently contacted representatives of Danny McBride (“Land of the Lost”), but he’s busy with a second season of the HBO sitcom “Eastbound and Down.”
