Thursday, January 15 - Sunday, January 18 * Dobie Theatre 14 B-movies! 4 nights of rollickin' good fun, curated & presented by Mr. T
The Austin Film Society is excited to announce the second kind-of annual Tarantino FilmFest, Thursday 1/15 - Sunday 1/18 at the Dobie Theatre! If you participated in the summer 1996 Fest, you know how much fun to expect. For a first-hand look, visit the Ain't it Cool News web site at: www.aint-it-cool-news.com/potluck/quentin/
This time around, director Quentin Tarantino - yes, that Tarantino -will present approximately 15 films at the Dobie Theater over four days. Quentin has curated the program from his personal collection and will draw attention to these representatives of this cannon of neglected cinema through impassioned introductions to each film. The tentative line up: Thursday: Controlled Hysteria (3 films), Friday: Neglected 70s Crime Films (3 films), Saturday: all-night Exploitation Film Marathon, Sunday: Kiddy Matinee and a closing film t.b.a.
Seating is limited to 180 within the Dobie's intimate enclaves. We expect this event to be a hot ticket, so we are limiting sale of festival passes to AFS members. Passes for the entire Fest are $75 and provide admission for one to all films (each of which Quentin will personally introduce) over the four days. Passes are transferable, so it won't bother us any if you share one with a friend and split your days of attendance.
Should seats remain, we will sell single-day passes at the Dobie box office (on the day of the shows only). We have no advance idea how many-or if any-single day passes will be available, so you may want to join AFS purchase a pass to insure access to the Fest. Please see the reverse for the schedule and information on purchasing passes.
the rules:
1. Fest Passes will be pre-sold to AFS members only. What? Not a member?! Now is the time to join: $20 a year for a whole bushel of benefits (we can send you details)
2. We are selling passes during specific hours:
Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday /Thursday 11am - 2pm
This system worked great for Jackie Brown so we're trying it again. We'll have extra staff on at these times who will be able to take charge by phone info.
The point of the Tarantino FilmFest is to have a good time. We've based our ticket prices on the ideal of breaking even, with maybe a little left over to help out the Austin FIlm Society and our other programs.
AFS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit with a mission to show rarely-seen films and to help film and videomakers. Our series and special programs screen over 100 films each year at a variety of locations. For more info on AFS, e-mail afs@austinfilm.org or call 512/ 322-0145 and ask us to send an information packet!
