A report from the batty World Premiere of BATS.

FATHER GEEK here with a report on Houston's World Premiere of the terrible BATS. I managed to catch a screening of this cluncker myself. It has to rank at the absolute bottom of the much abused genre of "nature goes crazy and the beasts revolt" films. Now I'm not talking about the great "Giant Beasts" movies like MIMIC, THEM, BEGINNING OF THE END, MYSTERIOUS ISLAND, THE DEADLY MANTIS, or FOOD OF THE GODS. Oooooh Nooooo, Father Geek is referencing the stinkers in the genre of normal sized creatures revolt flicks like; BUGS, FROGS, KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS, RATTLERS,and NIGHT OF THE LEPUS. Yes geeks in a genre populated with some really horrible sleaze BATS ranks right down there at the very bottom of the list. It offers up bad acting, the worst in camera work, and terrible Bat puppets. Rent any of the above on video before you waste any money on BATS! Here's our report filed by The PR Gal...

Hey Harry! I'm writing in about the world premier of Bats. I was there working the screening. I work for an advertising company, A#*@ )&@&$#! & Associates. I was there keeping the people out of the reserved section. Heh, I had never heard of Leon before the movie so I didn't realize it was him when he walked up to me and asked to get into the reserved section! Poor Leon...he had the bad one-liners from the script. Also, Lou Diamond Phillips sat right behind me during the film, pretty cool.

Well, getting to the film, I'd just like to say how bad it was. B-A-D. What a beginning for Destination films. I would feel sorry for them if they were forced for some reason to release it but they did it willingly. The best part of this film was when the camera was shaking every time a bat flew by and you couldn't tell what was going on. And the horrid acting! I didn't expect much from Dina Meyer or Leon but Lou! What happened in these past few years between films for Lou?! I mean it was a horrid script but...well, I guess there really was no way to pull it off well for any actor. After the movie I saw Leon walking around with his very pregnant wife and he looked pretty dissapointed. Frankly I would be imbarrassed to be in this film. Of course, I've been in no films at all so I can't really talk but I seriously (sincerely) think that a 15 year old kid could have written this screenplay. I predict a 2 week period before going to VHS! Star Wars was scarier than Bats!

Well, if ya see it, let me know what you think. I'd be interested in your opinion. BTW, thanks for the informative site! I enjoy it every week!
