Looks like Daniel Radcliffe's first post-Potter film role is Paul in a new ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Young Daniel Radcliffe has greatly impressed me with his growth as an actor. It's weird watching the first Harry Potter films and seeing him improve from film to film, watching him grow up. When I interviewed him for the fifth film he struck me as a genuinely sweet and grounded guy with a real passion for his craft. It's hard for these kids to continue an acting career beyond such iconic roles and I like the Radcliffe has opted for plays and dramas in-between the Potters. If he's going to have any chance of continuing on in front of the cameras he's gotta take projects like the one Boffo on Variety just linked him to: an "updated" ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT. From the article it seems updated just means a new version as it's not some crazy contemporary reworking of Erich Maria Remarque's novel. It's still set in the trenches of WW1. Producers Ian Stokell and Lesley Paterson wrote the script and Radcliffe is a lock for the character of Paul, originally played by Lew Ayres in the 1930 film, which won the Best Picture Oscar. I haven't watched the original since my high school days, but I remember it being incredibly effective even for a bunch of teenagers sitting in a class room. Depending on how strong of a supporting cast they get and who they get to direct this could be the perfect post-Potter vehicle for Radcliffe. Shooting won't be until Spring of 2012 as Radcliffe is committed to How to Succeed Without Really Trying on Broadway. Thoughts? -Quint quint@aintitcool.com Follow Me On Twitter
