Last we heard, the first film's director...Pierre Morel...was developing a re-adaptation of DUNE for Paramount - so it doesn't seem likely that he'd return for another go. As Besson has a proclivity for advancing/promoting folks within his creative posse to full director, I'm betting that's what would happen in this instance.
