Greetings! ScoreKeeper here slipping the surly bonds of earth on laughter-silvered wings to deliver this amazing new video featuring James Horner, his music, and his fervent enthusiasm for flying.
This particular video hit home for me. For the entirity of my childhood, up until I entered college, I had always wanted to follow in my father's footsteps and become a pilot in the U.S. Navy. When it became apparent that this wouldn't happen, I settled for my second passion...film music. As much as film music encompasses me, my childlike fascination and borderline obsession for airplanes remain true to this day.
Who knew Mr. Horner nurtured a similar fanaticism for flying by climbing into the cockpit of a P-51 Mustang to soar through the footless halls of air up the long delirious burning blue? This video not only demonstrates his passion for vintage aircraft and his experiences riding in them, but also how a single artist can translate other life passions into expressive works of brilliance.
All this clap-trap leads up to the real reason I'm bringing this into the spotlight...the music that Horner has composed to commemorate these experiences is really quite spectacular! Horner fans should definitely check this out. There is even a link on the actual web site where you can sign up to receive word when the full video and recording of the work is available to the public. I signed up.
This behind-the-scenes look into its creation is a teaser to what appears to be a classic-in-waiting. Bravo!
James...Next time you travel sunward to touch the face of God. Tell him I said "hi."

Special thanks to John G. Magee, Jr. for his inspirational poem which I humbly pay homage in this piece.
