This spy is known to me as Dr Donald Blake, a man with a limp and wonderful surgically magical hands. He also performs ancient forms of plastic surgery with his uru hammer. But for now, he discloses info on an array of projects, so take a gander...
Well what can I tell you about Blues Bros 2000. You probably have a rough synopsis already but if not...Elwood get out of jail after 20 years and again has to reform the band, this time to win a blues competition in New Orleans. Obviously Jake is dead but in a roadside diner the band pick up John Goodman who takes over that role. The usual people are after them, the Chicago PD, the Feds, the Neo Nazis and for a modern twist the Russian Mafia. So basically you don¹t have a sequel as much as a remake. I ain¹t seen it yet as it¹s still in post production but it¹s reported to have the biggest car smash in history in it. As for that indefinable buzz about a film, the feeling is why the fuck make it? The first was no big shakes at the box office, it made it on TV and Video, the people who love the first (me included) will be thinking don¹t fuck with our baby and the people who don¹t know or care about No 1 won¹t care about this either.
Great Expectations. Ethan Hawke, Gwyneth Paltrow, Anne Bancroft and Bobby De Niro. Take a Dickens classic, set it in the modern day Florida Keys, add Bancroft as the nutty old dear and De Niro as the escaped con. Use the gorgeous Gwyneth Paltrow and equal sexy Ethan Hawke as the older versions of the leads and you have... What? Well something that makes you think nice try but no cigar. The main fault is due to the fact that the whole hook for the novel is an introduction to polite society and the intricate rules of etiquette etc etc of Victorian Britain, in the film these are replaced by fame and fortune, which just doesn¹t work. Also the film sort of falls between two camps, it can¹t be for the kids/book report market as there are some 15 (UK cert) sex scenes included and it doesn¹t quite have the attitude of a grown up movie. It has the feel of a Baz Lurhman, Romeo and Julliette wanna be, that doesn¹t have the balls to go for it. Still, Paltrow is cute and Mr De Niro and Ms Bancroft are amazing as usual, may wind up STV.
Rugrats-the movie. All the usual suspects are involved this is slated for 1999 so is still a long way off. I like the Rugrats so hope it works though I¹m not sure if the characters can carry a full feature. Crazy gossip one of the songs is by Iggy Pop and the score is by the main guy from Devo... Cool. The big scoop is the new character, a baby brother for Tommy. His name is Dill, Dill PuT Dill who is kidnapped by a load of circus monkeys, these could turn out to be show stealing characters if their song is anything to go by. Oh yeah they¹ve gone for the whole Disney thing, songs etc. I hope it works, but with Anastasia, Prince of Egypt and the next Disney out there I really have my doubts, still it should be good fun. Hope this type of stuff is what you¹re after, anything specific or areas of interest let me know and I¹ll see what I can do. I may have an interesting personal titbit soon, but as they say, until the check clears it¹s not a deal.
