Fox flips Disney the bird and moves forward with their own 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA flick!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Ah, Fox. Hot on the heels of the news of Disney's relaunching of 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA with David Fincher in negotiations to direct comes Fox saying "Hey, we got one of them, too!" While the two projects aren't exactly equal, in my estimation, Fox has some decent talent behind their Leagues movie.
Ridley and Tony Scott will be producing under their Scott Free banner from a script by Travis Beacham (Clash of the Titans) with an eye towards WANTED and NIGHT WATCH's Timur Bekmambetov. He's not signed, but then again neither is Fincher, says Heat Vision.
It's not a horrible team at Fox, but with the exception of the Scotts I feel they represent the least interesting of the two. I can't fault Beacham for the soggy mess that Clash of the Titans was because from what I understand his work on the script was largely scrambled and generally mistreated, but Scott Z. Burns has a bit of a better track record as a screenwriter. And... well, David Fincher vs. Timur Bekmambetov isn't really a fair comparison for the latter.
What does this mean? Who knows? It could mean we'll have two competing 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea movies, but more likely we'll see one of the two drop out. I'm hoping the Fox film puts some pressure on Disney to lock in Fincher and get the project going.
Thoughts?
