Well a new project is coming about now that we need to keep our eyes on. It seems that THIS PRESENT DARKNESS is being prepared by Chuck Russell for his next project. My spy, known only as SNEEZY, has decided to let me have a drip or two of info about it. Check it out, sounds coooool...
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaccchoooooooo!!!! Bless me!! Anyway as I was saying, Howard Kazanjian (Who I'm sure you know produced Return of The Jedi and Raiders, among many others) is producing a film based on a book called "This Present Darkness" that was written about 10 years ago by Frank Peretti. Well, the book was a huge seller especially to the Christian marketplace, (somewhere over 5 million sold) mostly because it deals angels and demons. Well, he's been trying to secure it for a long time and it finally got the option picked up tentatively by FOX 2000 some months ago. Chuck Russell, who directed the MASK and... an... ACHHHHHOOOOOOOO!!!!! Bless me, any way where was I? Oh yeah, Chuck, well he also did ERASER and he has been attached for a way long time to the project and classic comic artist Bernie Wrightson and Rick Law (I believe Glen may know who this is) [HARRY NOTE: Yes, Glen does know. There is an animated series that this fella is doing, check the Coaxial Back Logs!!!] have been providing conceptual art for quite awhile. Well, Tuesday night Chuck finally had his first effects test screening at the FOX lot, featuring effects from ILM. The presentation went extrodinarily well, with Chuck really working it for what it was worth. All in all, it went very very well, though Howard was told by one of the younger execs there that there seemed to be mixed response from the studio. I think this is mostly because of the subject matter and aaaah ahhhhh AAAAACCCCCHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! [HARRY NOTE: Man does this fella have a honker on him or what?] some feeling/thinking it may be too overtly religious, however as Chuck (who isn't any kind of believer) told them this project is way cool because it deals directly with the elements we all were brought up to believe in . Namely good and evil. He went on to explain that any religious element (angels/demons) is based strictly out of the Old Testament so there should be no segregation of religious audiences either (Jewish/Christian). Basically, he just told them if they were willing to accept all that then they were in for an awsome kick ass adventure. And it is.
Well, that's his report. Hopefully, I'll get some more news on this project. It sounds cool as can be. Man, I don't know about you, but ILM demons and angels would be awfully nice to take a gander at!!! If you have any images, scripts, treatments or anything... LET ME KNOW, this just sounds TOOOO COOOOOL!!!!
