Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a bit of news out of Cannes. Looks like Lasse Hallstrom is taking over Bill Condon as he goes and plays with sparkling abs in the Twiverse. The project is called SALMON FISHING IN THE YEMEN, based on book Paul Torday and adapted by SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE's Simon Beaufoy. It's about a sheik in Yemen who gets the crazy idea of introducing fly fishing to his culture... specifically salmon fishing... which presents a problem since salmon's a cold and fresh-water fish, both of which are scarce in Yemen. A London fisheries scientist is hired to make the impossible possible, with much help of the British Prime Minister's director of communication who sees this as a way to turn around the negative press surrounding the Iraq war. THR says Hallstrom will direct Ewan McGregor, Emily Blunt and Kristen Scott Thomas in the flick. Love the cast, love much of the director's work, the story sounds crazy enough, so why not?
