JJ Abrams to surprise us with a teaser trailer before Iron Man 2 this weekend? Possible Cloverfield follow-up called SUPER 8?!?

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Our good buddy and ex-pat Drew McWeeny over at HitFix has a helluva story on his hands. Basically, he's saying Abrams has used his famous veil of secrecy to hide the production of a teaser trailer that will be playing before IRON MAN 2 this weekend, much like he did when the CLOVERFIELD trailer appeared. Drew says the flick is called SUPER 8 and that even crews working on the teaser didn't know what they were doing... they were told it was a remake of a sex comedy. Drew doesn't know exactly what's on the teaser, but is confident that it's not the much-discussed Steven Spielberg/JJ Abrams movie that's been talked about recently and hazards a guess that it could very well be the Cloverfield follow up as he's pretty sure Abrams is not directing the feature version of whatever this SUPER 8 is. That makes some sense in as much that Super 8 was the cheap home video alternative before video cameras... I wonder if the movie itself is called SUPER 8 or if that's yet more code. I hesitated momentarily before reporting on this because I kind of wish Abrams could pull off something like this without it leaking out in any form, so it acts as a complete surprise. I remember going to movies as a kid the trailers were my favorite part. Pre-internet and pre-obsessive movie coverage the trailers would often be the first time I heard of big event movies. The world has changed and I can't deny the part I've personally played in that (and still continue to play), but at the end of the day I'm just a geek telling his fellow geeks about some cool shit. Instead of calling my personal friends on the phone I write to a million fellow geeks on a website. The scope might be different, but the process is very similar. Good work, Drew! Make sure to go over to HitFix and read his whole story! So, what do you guys think? -Quint quint@aintitcool.com Follow Me On Twitter
