Ridley Scott Reveals ALIEN Prequel Details!!

Merrick here...
There have recently been many, many hints...some direct, some oblique...suggesting that the ALIEN prequel would somehow involve "The Space Jockey" species glimpsed in the derelict spacecraft seen in the first film.
Ridley Scott spoke to MTV about the project (now in the early stages of development), confirming that this is indeed the case. He also says quite a bit more.
"It's set in 2085, about 30 years before Sigourney [Weaver's character Ellen Ripley]," [EDIT] "It's fundamentally about going out to find out 'Who the hell was that Space Jockey?' The guy who was sitting in the chair in the alien vehicle — there was a giant fellow sitting in a seat on what looked to be either a piece of technology or an astronomer's chair. Remember that?" [EDIT] "[The film] is about the discussion of terraforming -- taking planets and planetoids and balls of earth and trying to terraform, seed them with the possibilities of future life,"
...says Ridley in THIS PIECE at MTV, which goes on to explain how/if Weyland-Yutani figures into the prequel's storyline, whether the Xenomorhps will look like the Xenomorphs we've previously seen, and the gender of the movie's lead character. Definitely worth checking out this article. While we're waiting for this picture to ramp up, Fox & Co. are prepping the ALIEN ANTHOLOGY for Blu-Ray release. HERE's a tease of what packaging may look like in some regions (that egg design...while utterly impractical...is badass). It's not yet clear whether some of this limited edition packaging will actually make it to the States. I'd bet against it, but we can always hope... Personally, I want to see another ALIEN film...especially a good/interesting ALIEN film...but I don't really want to have the Space Jockeys demystified. Some concepts work better...undefined and mysterious.
