The following has been online for a day or two, but seems to not be getting too much notice - guess the concurrent madness of SXSW and ShoWest is pretty distracting at the moment. Still, this is an interesting (and potentially alarming) tidbit if true, so we thought we'd pass it along for your consideration.
Deadline says that Joe Johnston's CAPTAIN AMERICA film is actively casting right now & may be close to bagging its leads:
I'm told that Marvel has also made an approach to Channing Tatum.

It'll come down to Marvel making an offer, and Tatum either accepting it or rejecting it. But he is definitely in the mix, along with other confirmed candidates that include Fantastic Four's Chris Evans, Cloverfield's Mike Vogel and Tron Legacy's Garrett Hedlund, and Generation Kill's Wilson Bethel. Reports have Ryan Phillippe also vying for the job.

The same report touches on CA's search for its female star:
While Marvel is looking for an American actor to play Captain America, the candidates for the female lead are British. So far, Keira Knightley, Alice Eve and Emily Blunt are under consideration.
Channing Tatum? Johnston should just go to a comic book shop and buy a cardboard cutout of Captain America. 'Twould yield the same result, and the cutout is cheaper. Keep in mind, this is not a done deal yet - Deadline's merely saying Tatum's been approached by Marvel.
