Set The Reboot-O-Tron To: POLICE ACADEMY!!

Paul Maslansky, who produced seven POLICE ACADEMY movies between 1984 and 1994 (as well as a 39 episode animated TV series based on the same, and a 26 episode PA live-action series) ain't done yet. He's pulling together a fresh iteration of the concept for New Line.
"It's going to be very worthwhile to the people who remember it and to those who saw it on TV," Maslansky said. "It's going to be a new class. We hope to discover new talent and season it with great comedians. It'll be anything but another movie with a numeral next to it. And we'll most probably retain the wonderful musical theme." The early entries in the series featured sexual humor, but later films became more kid-friendly. Details of the tone of new movie, which would take the story to its beginnings with new characters, were unavailable.
...says The Hollywood Reporter HERE.
The first two POLICE ACADEMY movies were brought to us by The Ladd Company- who also produced higher-brow fare like THE RIGHT STUFF, OUTLAND, BRAVEHEART, and BLADE RUNNER. I seem to recall hearing that THE RIGHT STUFF was pretty-much a non-starter when released in 1983 (I'm not saying this cruelly - it's my third favorite film of all time behind A CHRISTMAS STORY and THE WIZARD OF OZ), and that the first POLICE ACADEMY film made so much money that it essentially paid off The Ladd Company's RIGHT STUFF deficits...or something like that. Will the concept be as warmly received this time around? We'll see...
