Hey folks... Believe it or not.. Our man, Elston Gunn has been having some rest and relaxation. So he traveled off to Borneo to get some additional recipes for cooking human flesh for me... What a pal! But he's returned with the skin on his bones, and a very thin Weekly Recap... but he covers the major bases. So enjoy... and if he missed something.. realize he's been in the jungle, sleeping in a hut who's ceiling was filled with shrunken human heads the natives harvested from WWII during the military possession of the island. He's a bit twitchy... so help em out in Talk Back...
TAKEN FROM VARIETY AND HOLLYWOOD REPORTER
ELSTON NOTE: Having been on vacation most of the week, the past couple of days I've been playing "catch up" with non-recap duties. Henceforth, I'm just bulleting 15 items I caught this week for a "nutshell recap." If you'd like, use the TALK BACK to mention the stuff I missed. Thanks.
* James Marsden (DISTURBING BEHAVIOR and the upcoming GOSSIP) will play Cyclops in Fox's X-MEN.
(HARRY NOTE: See.. I told you, you could trust info heard whilst shopping at Dave's Video. It's the world's highest mountain of industry tidbits and coolosities!)
* Canadian producer Wayne Grigsby is negotiating for the rights to FLIGHT 111: THE TRAGEDY OF SWISSAIR CRASH for a feature which may shoot next year.
* Peter Howitt (SLIDING DOORS) will direct MGM's ANTI-TRUST about a young computer programmer and his ruthless boss at a Silicon Valley computer firm.
* Bridgette Wilson (LOVE STINKS) joins Minnie Driver in BEAUTIFUL for director Sally Field.
* Frank Wood joins THIRTEEN DAYS starring Kevin Costner.
* David Keith (AN OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN) will play a navy general in NAVY DIVER starring Cuba Gooding Jr.
* Dennis Hopper will star in HELD FOR RANSOM, an indie flick to be directed by Lee Stanley, who adapted the Lois Duncan novel.
* Brendan Fletcher, Sarah Polley and Diane Ladd will star in THE LAW OF ENCLOSURES.
* Destination Films will produce the big screen adaptation of HOGAN'S HEROES written by Keith Samples.
* Michael Rapaport will star in Spike Lee's BAMBOOZLED.
* Heath McKnight's BITTERSWEET will now be titled SKYE FALLING.
* John Woo will next direct WINDTALKERS, a big WWII pic about the relationship between two soldiers during a time when the Japanese were deciphering U.S. codes, if Nicolas Cage agrees to star.
(HARRY NOTE: This Woo project could be very very cool. I've been aware of this story (of the Navajo cryptographers in WWII) my whole life. My grandfather worked in Cryptography for quite some time during the war... and new the whole deal. Way cool.)
* David Paymer joins Alec Baldwin, Sarah Jessica Parker and William H. Macy in STATE AND MAINE for writer/director David Mamet.
* Amy Smart (OUTSIDE PROVIDENCE) will star in DreamWorks' comedy ROAD TRIP for director Todd Phillips (FRAT HOUSE).
* Janet Jackson will star opposite Eddie Murphy in THE NUTTY PROFESSOR 2: KLUMPS for director Peter Segal.
HOGAN'S HEROES? Janet Jackson in KLUMPS? John Woo doing WWII? Marsden as Cyclops? David Keith? Whaddya think? Also, if anyone knows anything about BAMBOOZLED, speak up. Thanks.
Until next week...
Elston Gunn
