The Director Of The Revamped SPIDER-MAN Is...

As previously rumored/conjectured, Marc Webb has been confirmed as the director of Sony's SPIDEY reboot. In a press release, Columbia president Matt Tolmach says:
"At its core, Spider-Man is a small, intimate human story about an everyday teenager that takes place in an epic super-human world. The key for us as we sought a new director was to identify filmmakers who could give sharp focus to Peter Parker's life. We wanted someone who could capture the awe of being in Peter's shoes so the audience could experience his sense of discovery while giving real heart to the emotion, anxiety, and recklessness of that age and coupling all of that with the adrenaline of Spider-Man's adventure."
Webb recently brought us 500 DAYS OF SUMMER and has directed videos like Green Day's "21 Guns", All American Rejects' "Move Along", some Evanescence stuff, and more. You can see samples of his work via the "video" portion of the exploding sheep HERE. The new SPIDEY should hit theaters Summer 2012, from a script by James Vanderbilt. Production should ramp up later this year. I really wish they wouldn't reboot this back to an origin story. No matter how good it could end up being, I'm thinking we just don't need to see 'how it all started' again to make the franchise work anew.
