TMZ, which one week ago broke the story of Jay Leno moving back to 11:35 p.m., now reports NBC has signed Leno to return as host of an hour-long “Tonight Show.”
NBC has already denied the report. Network execs confirmed earlier this week they hoped to shrink “The Jay Leno Show” to 30 minutes and move it to 11:35 p.m. -- while moving “The Tonight Show Starring Conan O’Brien” to 12:05 a.m.
O’Brien balked at having to start his show half an hour later, and it looks like his long on-air association with NBC is coming to an end.
The results of a TV Guide poll posted Wednesday indicated that 83% percent of respondants preferred O'Brien retain his 11:35 p.m. slot. The other 17% indicated they wanted Leno to return to 11:35 p.m.
