Cinedome takes a look at BODY SHOTS

Hey there folks. I haven't really heard a thing about this movie and the premise doesn't really grab me too much. But... hey... Maybe it is all in the execution, right? However, I've had good luck with movies featuring Young Indy, so I'll give this one a shot (hardeeharhar).

Harry: I have to tell you about BODY SHOTS which I saw last week at a press screening .

Now I’m sure you’ve heard plenty about this film due to it’s title change (the movie is no longer called JELLO SHOTS). It's a stylistic take on sex and love in the 90s told through a night out with eight twenty-something Los Angelinos.

It’s directed by Michael Cristofer (GIA, and the playwright of SHADOW BOX as well as screenwriter of THE WITCHES OF EASTWICK), written by David McKenna (AMERICAN HISTORY X).

Like RASHOMON, each character presents a different perspective as they try to piece together the events of a drunk evening. Similarly, they give us glimpses and lessons about modern sexuality that are sometimes hilarious and always too true. And the end has got a shocker that totally throws you for a loop--sorry Harry, I hate spoilers.

So more about the cast--they are fantastic! Amanda Peet, whom I’ve never seen before but is rumored to be great in the upcoming JACK & JILL series, plays Jane, the romantic and intellectual lead opposite Sean Patrick Flanery. On a side note, why doesn’t POWDER get better roles? This guy is great. I can’t wait for his supposedly gritty new series, THE STRIP. Tara Reid continues her post-AMERICAN PIE rise to stardom and gives her best performance to date. Jerry O’Connell is also great as the beefy football player out for only one thing. Brad Rowe, looking quite different than the “babe” in last year’s BILLY’S HOLLYWOOD SCREEN KISS, plays the cute but dorky guy. I’m also looking forward to him in Kevin Williamson’s WASTELAND. Emily Procter plays an airy yet down to earth cocktail waitress with a kinky edge and Sybil Temchen shows us some of the pros and cons of a one night stand. Above all, Ron Livingston is absolutely hilarious. He continues to amaze me and prove that he truly is one of the most gifted and charismatic actors working. I believe the movie is coming out in late October and I’m sure this film will cause some buzz if not for it's honest approach to sexuality then for it’s terrific ensemble cast.
