Jason Reitman On Edgar Wright's SCOTT PILGRIM: "Carries More Unadulterated Joy Than I've Seen In Recent Cinema!"

Beaks here...

Twitter is the devil. I probably would've finished my 10th Anniversary love letter to THE IRON GIANT hours ago were it not for the time-sucking evilness of the micro-blogging phenomenon. And now Jason Reitman has punished me for my procrastination by breaking something approaching news on this late October Monday - which I am now obligated to share with you. In a series of tweets worthy of Spy Magazine's classic "Logrolling in Our Time" feature, the UP IN THE AIR writer-director has decided to weigh in on thirty minutes of his pal Edgar Wright's scorchingly-anticipated SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD (release date: TBD 2010). And, shock of shocks, he's pretty damn pleased with what he's seen. Here come the tweets (mashed together for easy reading!):
"In London, @edgarwright showed me 30min of Scott Pilgrim. While sworn to secrecy (so much, surprised blood wasn't demanded) I will say this: It is a game changer for Edgar and the genre. It moves the speed of light and carries more unadulterated joy than Ive seen in recent cinema. I'm in awe of the sheer control in the filmmaking. It feels like a "Matrix" for love and how willing we are to fight for it. If I had a movie coming out next year, I wouldn't want to be anywhere near it. Hats off my friend. Can't get it out of my head."
Make of this what you will. I make of it that he's a poopy-head for getting to see thirty minutes of my most anticipated film of 2010 that's not called TREE OF LIFE. I'm also concerned that Reitman is becoming (per Kevin Sullivan) the "Chad Ochocinco of the film world." Can't wait for the Oscar season trash-talking with Lee Daniels! And if you've yet to delve into the wonderfulness of Bryan Lee O'Malley's graphic novels, please do something about that.
