Ishmael looks at PERFECT STORM set!

Hey folks, Harry here and ya know... This film is one of those that sort of interests me. The word is that the script is incredible, that the storm sequence of the movie will be... ahem... very expensive... and it is one hell of a story. Given the director (Wolfgang Peterson) and the talent he's assembled for this production.... This is a project to watch out for. It's liable to kick ya in the buttocks. Well... I'll let Ishmael take over...

Harry:

My wife and I were up in Gloucester, MA this past Sunday and got to check out some of the preparations for the filming of The Perfect Storm. There were fliers around town announcing auditions on the 25th, and that filming would run from the 7th to the 23rd. They have built a set for the Crow's Nest, the bar that features prominently in the book, right in the docks area. The real Crow's Nest is about a half mile away, and is an uninspiring looking building with a couple of Bud signs and few windows. The set is a different story, however, and my wife described it as 'quaint'. Two stories painted a chalky blue, with colored windows and a friendly look to it. They haven't finished the interior, but the exterior is done and they've started to collect props (fishing gear and such).

Docked outside the set area is the boat that they're going to use for the Andrea Gail. The name was covered, except for the 'A', and our main impression is that she's SMALL, especially for seven guys at sea for 30 days. Not much standing between the crew and the ocean. Since the Gail is at the bottom of the Atlantic they brought in another fishing boat which is very similar to the Gail according to the local we talked to.

Call me Ishmael.
