Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with the first official released trailer for the NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET remake. In it you get a lot of scenes you've seen before as well as your first decent look at the new Freddy make-up. And Jackie Earle Haley's Freddy voice.
Take a look and I'll be below with my thoughts.
The flick looks sharp, right? Stylistically, I'm very happy, however I still find myself wishing they'd just reboot the material and not have Nancy, Tina and all the rest. Every time I see something new I think "That's pretty cool... yeah, Kruger running from the parents... ohh, creepy kids with slash marks on their clothes..." and then I see the iconography from the first film and it takes me right out of the moment. Hey! There's where Tina dies! Hey, there's the glove in the bathtub moment! You know what I mean.
Honestly, it just makes me wish somebody had taken Robert Englund and made a real deal original Freddy movie in that tone with that level of production value. And Haley looks fine in the part... I don't know, I guess I'm just saying that I'm mixed. As a die hard Nightmare on Elm Street fan I love a lot in the trailer, but I'm hoping there's enough added to the movie to take it the next level. As retarded fun as the FRIDAY reboot was, Freddy's a bit more cerebral which makes him far scarier. Especially if the tone is right that character and that universe can really get under my skin. There's more potential with this series.
What do you folks think?
