EVE'S BAYOU

Last night I was lucky enough to see Eve's Bayou. This is about a young girl (Jurnee Smollet), her family and life in the south. The plot involves the events after young Eve catches her father (Samuel L. Jackson) fooling around with town slut. Eve and her older sister, keep the secret but find out that he has "special" treatments to many of his female patients. Things are further strained when their parents start to fight.

Jurnee Smollet is young Eve, who is cute but has intelligence to her character. Her wise-cracking to the husband of the woman her father is having an affair with is quite over the top. The preformances of Lynn Whitfield as her mother is outstanding. She makes us feel for her as the protective mother and the scorned wife. Kasi Lemmmons a first time director uses straight-forward story-telling and wonderful locations to make this film great to watch. Samuel Jackson turns in a stunning proformance as the doctor with the "wandering eye".

I was able to get seats really close for this one. 3rd row. I was able to run in Ebert and Jackson et al. on the way out of the theatre. All were very nice and I'm not sure who turned a brighter shade of red, the director (who has never had her work shown in front of an audience) or myself (trying not to be too rude or interupt what her and counterparts were talking about).

With Five days left, I'm sure we will hear more from the "Singer of Mothra Tunes" great work so far!!!
