TRUE LIES 2 to shoot in 14 months - not according to James Cameron...

Hey folks, Harry here... I get these emails from a certain Arnie fan. They come with some frequency - many of the online movie commentators get them as well, and I'm betting you talkbackers can even guess the name of the email assailant. Tom Arnold recently has been quoted as saying that TRUE LIES 2 was going to be shooting in 14 months. This would be on the otherside of Arnie's term as Governor. That would give him a degree of time to get back into badass shape... that is on the otherside of AVATAR for Cameron. Well... I had to email Jim to find out if there was any truth to Tom Arnold's statement. You see, ever since the release of TRUE LIES, Tom Arnold has been quoted as being the official cheerleader for the sequel. Most of the web community has taken to not repeating Tom's hopeful statements - as there have been no other indicators regarding the reality of his statements. Here's what Cameron wrote me when I asked about the latest statement from Tom.
Harry,
Again, as always, thanks for checking the facts. I think Tom was joking. There are no plans for a True Lies 2. I don't know about the creative direction thing... I'm always down for a good action/comedy ( actually we always classified the film as a "domestic epic"). But since September 11, I've never felt comfortable generating laughs with nuke-toting Islamic fundamentalist terrorists. True Lies, even though it has a cautionary thread underneath the pratfalls, is in a strange way a product of a more innocent time.
But if we ever do another True Lies, I wouldn't dream of doing it without Tom. He's a good friend and a very funny guy.
Jim out
So there you have it. "There are no plans for a TRUE LIES 2." - James Cameron.
