Though I tend to be scared off by comedies with tropical settings (call it "CLUB PARADISE syndrome"), I must say that this brand new trailer for Peter Billingsley's COUPLES RETREAT has me kind of excited. Then again, it's also got Kristen Bell dancing around in a bikini, so it's possible my judgment has been clouded.
But there are other reasons to be upbeat. For starters, check out the cast list. While I'm always game for Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau bantering their way through a movie, it's the supporting players that have really got me giddy: Peter Serafinowicz, Ken Jeong, John Michael Higgins... these guys get laughs just by showing up. And the ladies - Bell, Kristen Davis, Malin Akerman and Tasha Smith - are plenty talented in their own right.
This is a very confident trailer. It's not mind-blowingly funny or anything (only Favreau's "screen saver" line and Serafinowicz's Walken-esque delivery elicited chuckles), but it seems like a good time. I like everyone involved. Let's hope, in tropical comedy terms, this is more THE PALM BEACH STORY than CLUB PARADISE.
