What’s SHOOT THE MESSENGER?

Well, AICN COMICS: SHOOT THE MESSENGER is your weekly one stop shop for comic book -EWS. What’s comic book –EWS? Well, it’s our hodge podge of everything not reviews here at AICN Comics. Sure you can find out the @$$Holes’ critical opinions of your favorite books every Wednesday at AICN Comics. But here, you’ll find special reports such as previews, interviews, special features, and occasionally news gathered here from our online brethren at Newsarama, CBR, Wizard, etc. Sure those guys are the best at reporting news as it breaks. Click on the links for the original stories. This column cuts the crap to run down all the vital information for those of you who don’t follow it as it comes in, and serves it all up with that special ingredient of @$$y goodness.

Hey folks, Ambush Bug here with another Shoot the Messenger column chock filled with bits of DIS and pinches of DAT.
Let’s start out with the winners of our “Best. Comic Book Guy. Quote. Ever.” Contest. The following will be receiving THE SIMPSONS: THE MARGE BOOK, full of all things Marge, just in time for a belated Mother’s Day gift. There were tons of entries and quite a few repeat quotes, so I chose the first of the best quotes submitted.

"Oh, loneliness and cheeseburgers are a dangerous mix." Andrew Heiting-Doane
Bart: "Stan Lee is still here?" Comic Book Guy: "Stan Lee never left, and I'm beginning to think his mind is no longer in mint condition." Josh Luterman
“If my knowledge of sci-fi movies is correct--which it is--the black car is an advanced probe for the mother ship. Now, if you're through, I'm going to spend my last hours on Earth complaining about movies on the Internet.” Richard Fernandez
CBG: “Err... Tell me, how do you feel about 45 year old virgins who still live with their parents?” Woman: “Comb the Sweet Tarts out of your beard and you're on.” CBG: “Don't try to change me baby.” Jim Zoyiopoulos
"Inspired by the most logical race in the galaxy - the Vulcans – breeding will be permitted once every seven years. For many of you, this will mean much less breeding. For me, much much more." C. Robert Dimitri
“Lucite hardening... must end life in classic Lorne Greene pose from Battlestar Galactica... Best... death... ever!!” Jacob Brown
“That is a rare photo of Sean Connery signed by Roger Moore. It’s worth 150 dollars.” Trey Shaver
"There's no emoticon for what I'm feeling!" Tim Harrod
"Someone has mixed an AMAZING SPIDER-MAN in with the PETER PARKER: THE SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN series. This will not stand." Chris
"Are you the creator of Hi and Lois because you are making me laugh." Bob Jensen

These books went out last week, so if the winners haven’t received THE MARGE BOOK yet, they soon will. Thanks to all who participated in the contest.

Jon Hamblin chats with Bryan Talbot

Friend of the @$$Holes Jon Hamblin (editor of Dads-space.com) had a chance to sit down with Bryan Talbot at a recent Sci Fi London event and ask him a few questions. Check out this cool interview below…

Part Two of the interview can be found here. It mainly deals with his work on A TALE OF ONE BAD RAT, and there's also an exclusive trailer for GRANDVILLE, his new anthropomorphic steampunk comic, coming out later this year.
You can also check out a free giveaway of a signed copy of Talbot’s last book here for those interested wolrdwide.
Thanks, Jon, for another awesome interview!

We’ve got a rack-full of goodness for you guys this week starting out with an extra special preview from one of our own @$$Hole reviewers Ryan McLelland. Ryan’s been reviewing for us for a while and when an @-Hole makes good, we like to celebrate it. So check out this preview from Ryan’s book WISE INTELLIGENCE #1 available now!

WISE INTELLIGENCE #1 Writer: Ryan McLelland Art: Adam Talley Publisher: Evolution Studios Release Date: Out now!

Thanks Ryan for letting us preview WISE INTELLIGENCE #1. Looks like a very cool and very indie slice of lifer story. Those with enough taste to check out Indie Jones every week in our Wednesday column should seek this one out.

DARK REIGN: YOUNG AVENGERS #1 Writer: Paul Cornell Art: Mark Brooks Publisher: Marvel Comics Release Date: This Wednesday

A new set of YOUNG AVENGERS, hmmm. If it’s as interesting as the first series, I’m on board and with the writer of CAPTAIN BRITAIN & MI13 providing the words, I must check this out come Wednesday!

MERCY THOMPSON: HOMECOMING #3 Writer: Patricia Briggs & David Lawrence Art: Amelia Woo Publisher: The Dabel Brothers Release Date: May 20th

DARK REIGN: HAWKEYE #2 Writer: Andy Diggle Art: Tom Raney, Scott Hanna Publisher: Marvel Comics Release Date: This Wednesday

This miniseries looks to be a winner. Andy Diggle is on top of his game providing some awesome non-stop action here. I’ll be picking this one up this Wednesday too.

FUSION #1 Writers: Dan Abnett & Andy Lanning Art: Tyler Kirkham Publisher: Top Cow Release Date: This Wednesday!

One of the undeniable truths of the comic book world is that if Abnett & Lanning are writing, I’m going to be checking it out! They’ve been kicking so much ass with NOVA & GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. I’m eager to see what they can do with the meeting of Marvel and Top Cow. Check this out this Wednesday!
