The Edge was next on Saturday. This film stars Anthony Hopkins as a well read billionaire who goes on vacation with his model wife (Elle MacPherson) and a photographer(Alec Baldwin). When the billionaire and the photographer get trapped away from camp when they fight their way back to the camp. Enter the sidestory of the photographer having an affair with the wife of the billionaire.
Set against the beautiful scenerey of northern Alberta, this film is a surprise. I thought it would be quite the typical fair. Thought the plot is a bit thin it makes up for it in the acting ability of Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin. Hopkins makes us love his character in the way that he is not only quirky but inteligent and a loving husband as well. Macpherson is in little of the film and is a bit of cardboard character. Baldwin tries hard to be believeable but more often than not he comes off as just a dumb villian and a whiner.
Hopkins, Baldwin and Macpherson as well as the director Lee Tamahori (Mulholland Falls). All were quiet during their introductions except for Hopkins who got a standing ovation. Sitting so close to Hopkins (about 30 rows back) I was taken by his height and the way he kept the crowd waiting each word he spoke.
