Alllll right! Another film based on that badass muther mean as hell thief, Parker. I love watching Parker's way of life, bucking the odds and when them odds turn cold and long... He'll just kick everybody's ass. Let's hope this project leaves the name alone and nails him even meaner and ruthless. Alright you Parker lovers.... let's keep our eyes on this one!
This is from a source about as reliable as they get. This may have made the news already, but I haven't seen it anywhere.
Scott Smith, author of the novel and screenplay A Simple Plan, has been contracted to do a screenplay based upon the novel Backflash by Richard Stark (a pseudonym for author Donald E. Westlake). Backflash is the latest in a series of books detailing the adventures of a professional thief named Parker. The first book in this series, The Hunter, was recently filmed as the Mel Gibson vehicle Payback. I don't think the projects are related in any way, and I suspect Mel will not be reprising his role.
Parker novels have been filmed seven times (including Payback), yet no two films have ever been related. However, Mr. Silver holds the rights to two other Parker novels, The Man With the Getaway Face and Butcher's Moon, so there may be an attempt to turn the character into a franchise with Parker films eight through ten.
If this information is interesting and useful, I ask that you please keep me advised of any other information that comes your way regarding this project. I run a web page devoted to the Parker books and the films based on them (CLICK HERE to Visit The PARKER site!), and like you, I'm always looking for a scoop.
Sincerely,
Trent
