Clooney, Edwards, Wyle, Margulies, Stringfield And LaSalle All Scrubbing In For Tonight’s Last New ER Ever??

I am – Hercules!! “ER” concludes its 15-year run tonight, and NBC is devoting all three Thursday primetime hours to the landmark medical drama. The network says of the final, two-hour episode, titled “And in the end …”:
Gates (John Stamos) works on a young teen brought in with alcohol poisoning after playing a deadly drinking game with friends. Dr. Carter (guest star Noah Wyle) opens a new medical facility for the underprivileged in Chicago and some old friends from County General all come to show their support. It's Sam's (Linda Cardellini) birthday and Alex (Dominic Janes) and Gates surprise her with a special gift. Meanwhile, Carter works with an intern to save a mother in labor with twins.
Though the press release makes no mention, the promos suggest the “old friends” will likely include all the season-one regulars, including Juliana Margulies & George Clooney (who now work as a team), Sherry Stringfield, Eriq LaSalle and even Anthony Edwards (whose character died six seasons ago), as well as Laura Innes, Maura Tierney, Alex Kingston, Parminder Nagra (whose character quit County two episodes ago) and Thandie Newton (who plays John Carter’s wife). I’m guessing some component of Carter’s new medical facility will be named for Mark Greene. Perhaps we’ll see Greene’s glowing ghost watching beside Lucy Knight and Rocket Romano, Jedi-style, as the ribbon is cut. The episode also comes with its own Gilmore Girl, Alexis Bleidel, who will play a new intern in the two-hour finale. Perhaps she’ll puke as Carter did, and Carter will console her in the ambulance bay as Greene consoled Carter in the pilot. I thought last month’s Clooney/Margulies installment, a sequel of sorts to the long-ago best “ER” episode ever (“All in the Family,” which depicted the death of intern Lucy Knight), was the best “ER” episode since Lucy’s demise. ER Retropective: 8 p.m. Thursday. NBC. ER Finale: 9 p.m. Thursday. NBC.
