Gator Bait wrote me about 'Men With Guns' John Sayles' latest creation. Mr. Bait is untamed and deadly, he ruled his swamp with a blazing gun and a luscious smile!!! He's half animal and all man, but he wishes he could look like Claudia Jennings!!!
Great movie, but what else do you expect from Joh Sayles. I don't want to give away any of the story, because it was nice of Mr. Sayles to speak to us. But it is definitly not a run of the mill movie that had me nearly in tears by the end( as in, "that's the saddest thing I have ever seen"- I never, NEVER cry in movies. Okay, a little story. It's about a doctor from a nameless South American city who has trained young men and women to become doctors for the Indians. A few years later he goes in search of them, and is horrified at what he, and his new companions, find. It's all in Spanish in subtitles, but don't let that intimidate you. I stopped noticing them after a minutes, and could even understand some of the spanish from all those high school classes. Sayles fans will not be dissapointed If you can't wait for it, see Matewan. It explores many of the same themes. Though a true Sayles fan has probably already seen it. I actually met John Sayles after the showing, and he is a cool guy. Not what I expected, at all.
And a special note for movie fans. Do you know those cool flashbacks he did in Lone Star, that somehow make seamless transition from past to present. No special effects in that, it was the same shot. They just had the crew run around when the camera wasn't on them and changed everything around. Well, I thought it was interesting. Hope that helps. And I wish I could tell you where I saw it, but I can't, cause it's top secret.
