SLUMDOG Screenwriter Simon Beaufoy Boards DreamWorks Animation's TRUCKERS!

Beaks here...

Contrary to Wednesday's report, Simon Beaufoy, the Academy Award-winning screenwriter of SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE, is not in talks to script a potential sequel to X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE. Granted, he may have had a talk with producer Lauren Shuler Donner, but it was nothing more than casual, cocktail-party chitchat. What is Beaufoy doing post-SLUMDOG? Well, according to The Hollywood Reporter, he's signed on to write TRUCKERS for DreamWorks Animation. What's TRUCKERS about? Haven't a fucking clue, but I'm willing to wager it isn't a cartoon remake of WAGES OF FEAR. More likely, it's a kid-skewing retelling of SORCERER featuring Mickey Rourke as the voice of a breaking-down, nitroglycerin-loaded truck named Roy. And within an hour of posting this story, Peter at Slashfilm has learned that TRUCKERS is based on the first book in Terry Pratchett's THE BROMELIAD TRILOGY - which has been in development since 2001! That sounds... somewhat promising! DreamWorks Animation has yet to set a release date for TRUCKERS, which means we probably won't see it until 2012 at the earliest.
