What's this? GEMINI MAN back to life? And Curtis Hanson is up for directing?

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I remember back probably 9 or 10 years ago I read a script for GEMINI MAN (I'm pretty sure it was the Jonathan Hensleigh draft), a sci-fi thriller about an aging assassin who leaves the business only to have his bosses send a young assassin after him... Pretty well-worn formula, right? The twist is that this young assassin is a clone of the middle-aged one. At the time Mel Gibson was attached to star. I don't know why it didn't happen for sure, but I suspect the effects at the time couldn't support the story. The concept is perfect for an aging action star or huge A-list personality who has been in the business for most of his life. And it seems that's where this rebirth of the story is going. I suspect it all came about by seeing what Fincher was able to do with Brad Pitt in BENJAMIN BUTTON. That scene in the dance studio where we see 18 year old Brad Pitt... I guarantee that's what they're grabbing on to and trying to recreate here on a bigger scale. I have no idea who they're going after now. I'd love to see Mel actually come back to the project, but I have no idea if that ship has sailed. Maybe Bruce Willis? That'd be pretty great, I think. Bald Willis vs. Widow's Peak Willis. Curtis Hanson (LA CONFIDENTIAL, WONDERBOYS) is in talks to direct according to Hollywood Reporterand I'd be glad to see him pump out another really good flick. I love Hanson, but he's a wildly uneven director. Sometimes he gives us LA CONFIDENTIAL, sometimes he gives us IN HER SHOES. I think with the right material he has a great eye and makes great stuff. Jerry Bruckheimer is producing alongside Don Murphy, who originally set-up the property in the '90s.
