A Day Long Dreamt of... The Release of FANBOYS... in Austin, Seattle, Houston, San Francisco, NY, LA, Philly & Chicago!

Hey folks, Harry here... I kinda can't believe the day has come. I remember when Ernie Cline first came over to my house to hand me the script to FANBOYS - we weren't really friends at the time. He was a customer, he'd bought 2 BARBARELLA 1-sheets for his wife from me at City Wide Garage Sale, where I was still selling collectibles to pay the bills. It was the extremely early days of the site. Before there were ads. When the site was only ever on a single page. Articles were short and more often than not - it was just a link, two or three sentences written by me and a goofy Photoshopped image making fun of the project in question in a loving manner. Ernie was going to shoot the film on video with a group of locals. It was his, "I'm going to shoot my CLERKS" desperate grab for film... and frankly... to just get off his ass and actually make something from his imagination that he could show friends & god willing an audience. That was the year the Alamo Drafthouse opened here in Austin. I didn't really know Tim League back then. I hadn't met most of my friends, and my future wife was 12. To say it was a long time ago... doesn't really cover it. Today in the following markets on 44 Screens... FANBOYS opens theatrically. The odds are against the film. That's not many screens, it doesn't have a big national push. Seth Rogen isn't doing the TODAY SHOW to sell it, he won't be on CONAN or LENO or LETTERMEN or THE VIEW or any of the other shows. This is a quiet roll-out. We could bitch that it isn't on enough screens... or we could remember that almost 32 years ago, the original STAR WARS opened on May 25th, 1977 on only 32 screens. For this film to play in most of your cities, a miracle of turn out would have to occur. I'm not expecting that to happen. Nobody is expecting that to happen. But it could happen. It sold out every show that the ALAMO DRAFTHOUSE RITZ booked this Friday... So they began adding showing on their second screen there. They're expected to go quickly. Ernie Cline, the screenwriter will be on hand to introduce every screening. This is a work of extreme passion and perseverance on his part. I just got in from Berlin tonight, and will call him tomorrow to see if he'd like company. But the point of this article is to say this. This is a film that has been at war for so long. So many fans have wanted to see it, written emails on its behalf and tracked its progress over the last 10 years on this site and many others. I've seen multiple versions of this movie, my scene and ultimately I really like the final film. It is fun. At times it is more, at others you can feel unnatural hands touching its Underoos. But in the end... it exists, it made it, and your support - all of our support did that. I will always wish that Ernie's original draft had been shot. It's the film I love most. It is that script's sequences that work best, and it is for that reason that Ernie and Kyle Newman the director are doing their best to let as many of you know as possible. All they ever wanted to do was to make a film that reminds us of what we dreamt of a long time ago. That wanted to hold up a mirror to the friendships and the loyalty and love that those of us that embraced that original universe felt. I'm just so happy that this day has come. Enjoy it if you can. Call your Star Wars buddies, wear your shirt, jacket, hoodie, armor, whatever you got. You're a Star Wars Fanboy or Fangirl. These guys made a movie for ya. It hits these theaters today... (this list isn't complete - check your area, but this is what I found:)
