I am – Hercules!!
Friday morning's Variety confirms Latino Review's Nov. 19 scoop: “Kung Fu Panda” co-director John Stevenson has been chosen to direct the long-brewing second live-action movie version of “Masters of The Universe,” the 1980s cartoon series about a prince-turned-warrior who finds himself battling a super-skinny tyrant.
The screenplay is by Justin Marks, whose “Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li” hits U.S. cinemas in less than a month.
Critics warned me away from the 1987 Dolph Lundgren “Masters of the Universe” movie, but in the hands of a “Panda” director I could see fresh potential in the franchise.
Stevenson has decades of experience as an animation artist but his only directorial experience prior to the blockbuster “Panda” constitutes a few episodes of DreamWorks’ ill-fated post-mauling Sigfried & Roy animated sitcom “Father of The Pride.”
